BIBA webinar - Consumer Duty: Data-Driven Business Placement for Brokers presented by Datalab

This webinar explores the challenges brokers face with business placement following the introduction of Consumer Duty, as well as ongoing issues around insurer service levels and economic and political uncertainty. Attendees will gain insights into these challenges from a panel of industry experts and learn how leveraging data can help overcome them.

Learning objectives:

  • Identify Key Challenges: By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to identify at least three specific challenges brokers encounter with business placement and how to mitigate them.
  • Develop Data-Driven Strategies: Participants will understand the critical role of accurate and comprehensive data in meeting Consumer Duty requirements and learn how to develop effective, data-driven strategies to address these challenges.
  • Enhance Client Relationships: Brokers will learn how data can help to enhance client relationships and improve customer service.

Dan King, Co-Founder, Insurance DataLab

Dan hasworked in the media and business intelligence sector for more than 25 years, managing market leading brands for many of the UK’s most highly regarded publishing groups. Much of his career has been spent in the insurance world having worked on the launch of Health Insurance magazine in the 1990s, led Insurance Times as publisher and worked closely with the founder of Fairer Finance in the 2010s, and more recently been responsible for Global Reinsurance and the huge growth in its Dubai World Insurance Congress event.Away from work, Dan lives in South London and is often foundtraipsing around thecountry following his beloved Plymouth Argyle FC. 

Matt Scott, Co-Founder, Insurance DataLab

Matt is an award-winning journalist who started his career as an Actuarial Associate Consultant at Aon where he studied towards the professional exams of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and completed an MSc in Actuarial Finance at Imperial College Business School. As Insight Editor of Insurance Times, Matt reported widely on the UK general insurance market, focusing particularly on the financial and regulatory landscape. He has authored many well-respected research publications and is a regular speaker on topics including motor insurance, regulation, cyber insurance, customer service, and financial performance. Matt is a keen martial artist and football fan, and when not in the office can often be found enjoying the countryside of Dartmoor. 

Julie Comer, Head of Compliance

Julie has worked in the General Insurance and Financial Services sector for 35 years working for Insurance Intermediaries.  Much of her career has been in the world of compliance and regulation, spending the last 20 years looking after Risk & Compliance for a large intermediary in Somerset which involved developing and implementing policies and procedures, horizon scanning and providing advice and guidance to the different branches within the group.  She has achieved a number of qualifications including the Diploma in Compliance and Fellowship of the International Compliance Association, the Diploma in Financial Planning and Certificate in Insurance with the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Julie joined BIBA as the Head of Compliance in March 2024 and is passionate about helping members with all regulatory related enquiries as well as hosting the Regional Compliance Forums, discussing relevant topics with the FCA and other regulatory bodies.  Her mantra is to help and support members by deciphering rules and regulations, making them easier to understand.
